Poland to Italy is one of the busiest corridors in Central Europe, but the price still comes down to specific variables, not a corridor average. Here's the breakdown of volume, transport format, and the costs that show up once you're in Italy.

The four factors that set the price

  • Volume. The dominant variable, deciding what size vehicle you need.
  • Format: groupage or dedicated vehicle. The single biggest saving lever.
  • Access at both ends. Central Warsaw or narrow Italian city streets with no room for a truck add hours of labour.
  • Extra services. Professional packing is covered in our guide to packing for an international move.

Groupage or dedicated vehicle

Warsaw to Milan or Verona runs roughly 1,400-1,500 km; to Rome, over 2,000 km. This is one of the busiest freight corridors in Central Europe — Polish furniture and automotive manufacturing ship regularly into Italy, and Italian fashion and furniture ship back into Poland, which gives carriers return loads and keeps groupage prices down. Savings against a dedicated vehicle typically reach up to 45%, in exchange for delivery within a window. The general LTL/FTL logic is in how much it costs to ship freight across Europe.

How long it takes

A dedicated vehicle covers the route in 2-3 days; to Rome and further south, up to 4 days including mandatory driver rest. Groupage usually lands within a 5-10 day window.

Costs after the move

Registering in Italy

For the first three months you cannot be required to hold a residence document. Per the European Commission's Your Europe portal, registration can become mandatory after three months, and the certificate must be issued immediately and cost no more than a local identity card.

Your car

A permanent move means registering the car in Italy. The official EU guidance defines normal residence as more than 185 days a year in the country. We compare ways to transport a car in our guide to vehicle transport for an international move.

Next step

Layner Group runs the Poland-Italy corridor with its own fleet from 1 to 24 tonnes and its own office in Poland: over 1,500 completed moves, ISO 9001 certification, CMR liability. The full door-to-door process is on our Italy-Poland international move page. Send us your volume and both addresses and a preliminary quote comes back within 15-30 minutes.
