Germany and Portugal sit at opposite ends of the European Union: the route transits through France and Spain and ranks among the longest corridors we run. Layner Group handles door-to-door relocations between any city in Germany — Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Cologne — and any city in Portugal, from Lisbon and Porto to the Algarve.
What's included in the door-to-door service
- Loading against a written inventory at the pickup address in Germany;
- Transport as groupage (LTL) or a dedicated vehicle (FTL) — we match the format to your volume and timeline;
- Unloading and carry-in at the destination address in Portugal;
- Furniture disassembly and reassembly by the crew.
Professional packing for fragile and valuable items is available as a separate service. We cover exactly what's worth leaving to the crew and what you can safely pack yourself in Packing for an International Move: What the Crew Does and What You Do.
Timing and what drives the price
This is one of the longest corridors in our network: Berlin-Lisbon is about 2,300 km, Munich-Lisbon about 2,400 km, with transit through France and Spain. Because of the distance, groupage runs less often than on short corridors between neighbouring countries, so the LTL delivery window is wider; a dedicated vehicle, by contrast, gives you a fixed date with no intermediate transfers. The final price depends on the volume and weight of your belongings, the transport format you choose, building access on both ends (floor, lift, truck parking), and any extra services. A full price breakdown for this exact route is in How Much Does It Cost to Move from Germany to Portugal? Prices and Factors (2026). A preliminary quote comes back in 15-30 minutes.
Paperwork: no customs, but formalities on arrival
A move between Germany and Portugal is an EU-to-EU move: there's no customs clearance for household goods. The one formality to plan for is registering your residence with the local Câmara Municipal or SEF/AIMA if you're staying in Portugal longer than three months. If a vehicle is travelling with the move, check separately the deadlines for filing the customs vehicle declaration (DAV) and registering through the IMT — we cover that in Shipping a Car or Motorbike Abroad: Vehicle Transport for an International Move.
Who this service fits
- Flat-to-flat family relocations — groupage with a delivery window we agree on in advance, accounting for the length of the route;
- Moves that include a car — depending on timing, it travels on the same run or on a separate car-carrier;
- Small office relocations — furniture and equipment are loaded and unloaded against the same inventory and the same CMR liability as household goods.
Given the length of the route, it's worth booking several weeks ahead rather than a few days before — that gives you more date options and usually a better groupage rate.
