Italy to Spain is a long leg: roughly 1,700 km from Milan to Madrid, around 1,300 from Rome to Barcelona. Over that distance the gap between a planned move and an improvised one is measured in thousands of euros, not hundreds. We run this corridor in both directions, from loading at your door to placing the furniture in your new home.
What the service covers
- On-site survey or video call: an accurate volume instead of a guess.
- Packing materials, packing of fragile items, protection of floors, walls and doorways.
- Furniture dismantling, carry-out, loading and securing the load.
- International carriage with an agreed unloading date.
- Carry to floor, placement room by room, furniture reassembly.
- Removal of packing waste after unpacking.
Routes
Main corridors: Milan, Turin, Verona, Bologna and Rome towards Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, Alicante and Málaga. The return direction works the same way. The route runs through southern France, which on a long leg allows the vehicle to be filled and the cost per customer to come down.
Groupage or a dedicated truck
Over this distance the choice affects the price far more than it does on short legs.
| Groupage | Dedicated truck | |
|---|---|---|
| Charged by | Cubic metres occupied | The whole trip |
| Timing | A 3–7 day window | A fixed collection date |
| Transhipment | Possible at a terminal | None — one vehicle throughout |
| Sensible when | Studio, one or two rooms, flexible date | Three rooms up, urgent, fragile interiors |
As a rule of thumb, up to 25–30 m³ groupage is almost always cheaper. Above that the gap narrows, and a dedicated truck buys you a fixed date and no transhipment.
Transit times
Road time is typically three to six days depending on direction, volume and driver hours. The unloading date is agreed in advance. If the new home will be ready later, part of the load can go into temporary storage rather than splitting your household across two addresses.
Documents, and what does not travel in the truck
Italy and Spain are both in the EU and Schengen, so personal effects do not pass customs. You need an inventory, photo ID and the loading and delivery addresses.
Travelling with you rather than in the vehicle: documents, cash and jewellery, medication, keys, and devices holding personal data. Plants, alcohol beyond personal quantities, safes and anything requiring crating are agreed separately.
Liability and insurance
Carrier liability on international carriage is governed by the CMR Convention and calculated on the weight of the goods, not on what an item is worth. For antiques, artwork, collections and expensive equipment it is worth arranging separate cover — we cover this in detail in our guide to moving insurance.
