An international door-to-door move between Italy and the Netherlands — pickup in Milan, Rome, Turin or Naples and delivery in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht or anywhere else in the Netherlands, and the same in reverse. One carrier, one contract, one quote for the whole route across the Alps.

What's included

We handle the entire route as one job, not just the transport leg between two points, and coordinate both ends — the Italian side and the Dutch side — as a single process rather than two separate bookings:

  • Loading at origin, including disassembly of large furniture where needed.
  • Transport as groupage (LTL) or a dedicated vehicle (FTL), depending on volume and your timeline.
  • Unloading at destination, with carrying to floor and furniture reassembly at the new address.
  • Securing and protecting furniture and appliances in the truck for the full length of the journey.

Professional packing for fragile and valuable items is quoted separately — what's worth packing yourself and what's better left to the crew is covered in detail in our guide to packing for an international move.

What drives the timeline and the price

Italy–Netherlands is one of the longer intra-EU relocation routes: about 950 km from Milan to Amsterdam, and around 1,550 km from Rome, crossing the Alps and most of Germany. The final price and timeline depend on your volume, the transport format — groupage or a dedicated vehicle — and access at both ends: floor, lift, narrow streets. Groupage typically takes 5–9 business days and is noticeably cheaper over this distance; a dedicated vehicle covers it in 2–3 days with no transfers. For the full price breakdown, see our article on how much it costs to move from Italy to the Netherlands.

Your car or motorbike travels too

If a personal vehicle is moving with you, it can be loaded alongside your household goods in the same truck, or shipped separately on a dedicated car-carrier, depending on volume and the vehicle's condition. All the options, paperwork and realistic costs are covered in our guide to shipping a car or motorbike abroad.

Paperwork: no customs, just local registration

This move stays within the EU, so there's no customs clearance for either your belongings or your vehicle. Once you've settled in the Netherlands, you'll need to complete municipal residence registration (inschrijving) and, if you brought a car, re-register it locally within the applicable deadline. Neither step is complicated, but both are worth planning for rather than leaving until later.

Office and small business relocations

The same door-to-door format works for relocating a small office, workshop or storage unit between Italy and the Netherlands. The planning principles are the same — volume, timeline, access — the quote is simply built around your specific list of rooms, furniture and equipment instead of a household inventory.

How the quote works

  1. You describe your volume — by room or as a list — and the pickup and delivery addresses.
  2. We confirm the details: floor access, whether you need packing, furniture disassembly, or temporary storage if your Italian and Dutch dates don't line up.
  3. You receive a preliminary offer broken down by line item — never a single "full-service move" figure with no detail.
  4. Booking requires a 10% deposit, with the balance due before unloading at destination.

This structure protects both sides: you see the full amount and how it's built before the truck is on the road, not after.

Why Layner Group

We've been running European routes for more than 5 years: over 1,500 completed residential relocations and more than 10,000 commercial shipments. Our own fleet runs from 1 to 24 tonnes, we're ISO 9001 certified, and every shipment carries CMR carrier liability. We operate from offices in France and Poland, with coverage across all 27 EU countries. A preliminary quote comes back in 15–30 minutes, and payment is flexible: 10% to book, the rest before unloading, with no last-minute surprises.

What if something is damaged in transit?

Carrier liability across the whole route is covered under the CMR Convention — a standard for international road transport in Europe, not a Layner Group-specific term. For antiques, artwork or other high-value items, it's worth discussing cover above the carrier's basic liability while you're getting your quote, not after loading day.

Send us your volume and addresses — an accurate quote for your Italy–Netherlands move, in either direction, comes back within 15–30 minutes, and booking starts with just a 10% deposit.
