Electronics, precision machinery, antiques, pharmaceuticals, or any cargo with high value relative to its weight all share the same problem: they are the preferred target of organised gangs operating on European roads. Cargo theft across the EU has jumped 438% in just a few years and now costs more than €8.2 billion annually. If your business moves this kind of freight, standard transport is not always enough.

At Layner Group, we offer road transport with reinforced security for high-value and particularly sensitive cargo, with coverage across all 27 EU countries.

What our secure transport includes

  • 24/7 GPS tracking on every route, with alerts for any route deviation or unscheduled stop.
  • Sealed trailers with numbered security seals, verifiable at every stop along the route.
  • Certified secure parking on higher-risk stretches and at night, instead of open rest areas.
  • Trained drivers in safe-stop procedures and reaction protocols for attempted theft.
  • Supervised loading and unloading, with photographic records of the cargo's condition at origin and destination.
  • CMR coverage on every shipment, with guidance on additional all-risk insurance when the cargo's value justifies it.

Why this matters right now

In February 2026 alone, Europe recorded €166.5 million in cargo theft losses across 1,168 incidents. Germany, Italy, Spain and France account for most cases, and most thefts happen while the vehicle is parked: cutting the trailer curtain, forcing locks, or hijacking the vehicle outright. Unsecured motorway rest areas are well-known hotspots for organised gangs. For the full picture, we cover the data in detail in our article on rising cargo theft across Europe in 2026.

The CMR Convention, which governs carrier liability, caps compensation at 8.33 SDR per kilogram of gross weight, roughly €9-10 per kilo. For lightweight, high-value cargo, that cap often falls short of the goods' actual value, which is exactly why reinforcing physical transport security matters, not just relying on insurance.

How we work with you

Our own fleet, from 1 to 24 tonnes, is ISO 9001 certified and operates under official transport authorisations in Poland and across the EU. We receive your request, assess the cargo type and its risk level, and send a preliminary quote in 15-30 minutes with the recommended security measures for your specific shipment. If your cargo arrives or departs through a European port, such as Rotterdam or Antwerp, we also organise onward distribution with the same level of security; see an example on our Rotterdam and Antwerp to Spain distribution page.

We handle both full truckload (FTL) for high-volume shipments and groupage (LTL) for smaller consignments, applying the same security measures in both cases.

Who this service is for

We work with electronics manufacturers and distributors moving components between European plants and warehouses, pharmaceutical labs and wholesalers who need full shipment traceability, machinery workshops and manufacturers transporting precision equipment, and galleries and collectors shipping antiques or artwork between countries. The common thread is not the industry but the fact that, in every case, a loss in transit would be disproportionately damaging relative to the cost of transport itself, which is why it is worth investing in reinforced security from the first mile.

How to get started

Send us the origin, destination, cargo type and approximate volume. Within 15-30 minutes you will receive a preliminary quote with the recommended transport mode (FTL or LTL), the security level applied, and the estimated timeline. You do not need every detail finalised: if you are unsure whether extra security makes sense, just tell us what you are shipping and we will advise you with no obligation.

Not always. The CMR Convention caps compensation at 8.33 SDR (roughly €9-10) per kilogram of gross weight. For lightweight, high-value cargo, that cap can fall short of the actual value, which is why we recommend considering additional all-risk insurance taken out by the cargo owner.
