Moving from Belgium to Spain means covering roughly 1,300 km to Madrid or 1,050 km to Barcelona, with the route crossing the length of France along the way. A door-to-door service means one carrier handles the whole distance — one pickup, one delivery, one point of contact — instead of you coordinating separate legs, storage, or a change of vehicle partway through.
What's included
Our standard Belgium–Spain service covers loading at your current address, transport under CMR liability for the full route, unloading at your new address in Spain, and reassembly of any furniture that had to be taken apart to fit through doors or into the truck. If you'd rather not spend your last weeks in Belgium wrapping glassware and dismantling wardrobes, professional packing is available as a separate service. We cover exactly what's worth packing yourself and what's worth leaving to the crew — including how packing decisions affect what a claim can cover — in our guide to packing for an international move.
If your move-out and move-in dates don't line up, part of your load can go into short-term storage between the two — worth flagging when you request your quote, since it changes how the packing and the schedule are planned.
Timeline and what drives the price
Over a route this long, the vehicle itself is on the road for the better part of a day, sometimes with an overnight stop depending on volume, the driver's hours, and the exact pickup point. Your final price comes down to a handful of concrete variables: volume in m³, weight, floor and lift access at both addresses, the date and season, and whether your load travels as groupage — shared with other clients' cargo, usually the more cost-efficient choice for a studio or a one-bedroom flat — or on a dedicated truck, which gives you a fixed date and no shared cargo, better suited to a full house or fragile, high-value items. We put together a preliminary quote within 15-30 minutes once we know your volume and both addresses; no serious estimate can be given without that information, so treat a flat quote with suspicion.
Paperwork: simpler than it looks
Because this move stays entirely inside the EU, there's no customs declaration, no import duties and no VAT on your household goods — that only applies to moves involving a country outside the single market. The one real administrative task on the Spanish side is registering your residence once you're settled: first the municipal padrón at your town hall, then, after three months, the community resident registration certificate through the Central Registry of Foreign Nationals. If you're also re-registering a car or bringing a pet along, both come with their own deadlines worth planning ahead of time. We've laid out the full timeline, requirements and official EU sources in our companion guide to moving from Belgium to Spain: paperwork, car and pet.
Insurance beyond the basics
CMR liability covers the shipment by weight, which is enough for most household loads, but if you're moving artwork, antiques or anything unusually valuable, it's worth discussing additional cover before moving day rather than after something happens. Flag it when you request your quote and we'll factor it into the plan.
Why Layner Group
We've run the Belgium-Spain corridor as part of our regular EU network for over five years, with more than 1,500 residential moves and 10,000 commercial shipments completed out of our offices in France and Poland. Our own fleet, from 1 to 24 tonnes, covers all 27 EU countries, we hold ISO 9001 certification, and every shipment travels under CMR liability — a documented legal framework, not a verbal promise, if anything needs to be claimed. Payment is flexible: a 10% deposit secures your date, and the balance is due only before unloading, so there's nothing left unclear when the truck actually arrives.
