LTL groupage Poland to Italy

Pay for the metres you use, not for the empty half of a trailer.

Poland to Italy is one of the busiest manufacturing corridors in the European Union, and most of what moves on it does not fill a trailer. Furniture components, machined parts, packaging, appliances, building materials: shipments of two to twelve pallets that would be absurd to send on a dedicated truck.

Groupage exists for exactly that. Your goods share a vehicle with other consignments heading the same way, and you pay for the space you occupy rather than the truck you do not need.

How the price is actually built

Groupage is priced by loading metre, not by weight alone. One loading metre is a full width and height slice of the trailer floor, roughly two standard europallets side by side. If your pallets can be stacked, you occupy fewer metres and pay less; if they cannot, you pay for the footprint regardless of how light the goods are.

That single fact explains most surprises on groupage invoices. Tell us at the quoting stage whether the load is stackable, and the number you get will be the number you pay.

When groupage is the right answer

  • One to roughly twelve pallets. Below that, a parcel service is often cheaper. Above it, compare against a full truck: the gap narrows fast.
  • The date has some flexibility. Groupage runs on consolidation schedules, so a day either side usually buys a better price.
  • The goods tolerate handling. A groupage shipment is loaded and unloaded more times than a direct one. Well-built pallets matter here.

When none of those hold, we will say so and quote a dedicated vehicle instead. Selling you the wrong mode once costs us the account.

Transit time, honestly

A groupage transit depends on the consolidation schedule as much as on the distance, so we confirm the delivery window when we quote rather than publishing an average that may not apply to your week. The variables that actually move it are set out in our guide to transit times across the EU, and the legal driver limits that cap any road transit are covered in EU driving and rest times.

Paperwork and both directions

Both Poland and Italy are inside the customs union, so a movement between them is not an import and carries no duty. The CMR consignment note still governs the carriage and the liability, and we issue and track it. We run the corridor in both directions, so return loads from Italy to Poland are quoted on the same basis.

What we need to quote

Postcodes at both ends, number of pallets with dimensions and weight, whether they are stackable, and your date window. That is enough for a firm price, usually within 15 to 30 minutes in working hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is a slice of the trailer floor across its full width and height, roughly two europallets side by side. Groupage is sold by space occupied, so a light but non-stackable pallet costs the same as a heavy one of the same footprint.
One pallet. Below that a parcel service is usually cheaper and we will tell you so rather than quote you something worse.
No. Both are in the EU customs union, so the movement is not an import and no duty or import VAT arises. The CMR consignment note still applies.
Yes. Italy to Poland is quoted on the same basis, which is often where the better rates are depending on the week.
